Harvest Continues Throughout Wisconsin

(Blake Jackson, Wisconsin Ag Connection) For the week ending September 21, 2025, Wisconsin reported 5.7 days suitable for fieldwork statewide, according to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service.

According to Blake Jackson with the Wisconsin Ag Connection, harvest activity has begun, with both corn and soybeans starting to come off the fields. Moisture conditions remained generally stable.

Topsoil moisture was rated 4% very short, 17% short, 76% adequate, and 3% surplus, while subsoil moisture came in at 3% very short, 16% short, 77% adequate, and 4% surplus.

Corn progress continued, with 97% reaching the dough stage or beyond and 82% dented. About 28% of corn was mature, trailing last year by three days and the five-year average by five days. Corn condition was steady at 81% good to excellent, while corn silage harvest reached 41% completion.

Soybean development showed 82% of fields coloring and 46% dropping leaves, about five days behind last year and one day slower than the average. Soybean condition was rated 80% good to excellent, a slight dip from the previous week.

Other crops also moved forward. Potato harvest was 65% complete, and winter wheat seeding reached 29%, a few days behind both last year and the five-year norm. Wheat emergence stood at 10%.

Meanwhile, the fourth alfalfa hay cutting was 85% complete, running ahead of last year and average. Pasture and range conditions declined slightly, with 63% rated good to excellent, down five points from the previous week.
