(Heather Knox, WEAU) An Onalaska resident arrested in relation to a drug overdose death was sentenced in Jackson County Court.
According to Heather Knox with WEAU, Aspen Kalina was arrested on recommended charges of first-degree reckless homicide following an investigation that determined they delivered the drugs that resulted in an overdose death in 2023.
According to a news release from the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, on May 8, 2023, at about 2:48 a.m., it responded to a report of an unresponsive person in the Town of Albion.
The person was later pronounced dead. A toxicology report indicated that the person died from a drug overdose. An investigation led by a detective from the sheriff’s office provided the evidence to support that the drugs had been delivered to the victim by Kalina.
During a recent court appearance, Kalina was found guilty of, due to a no contest plea, manufacture/deliver amphetamine. Several other charges were dismissed and read in. He was sentenced to seven years in prison and five years of extended supervision.
