Wausau’s Good News Project Now Accepting Batteries
Tuesday, September 23rd, 2025 -- 9:00 AM
(Michael Crow, WSAU) The Good News Project is expanding its e-cycling service to include rechargeable batteries.
According to Michael Crow with WSAU, Eric Nielsen, E-cycling Manager, says that this addition is a year in the making. “There’s a lot more regulation and safety considerations for batteries than for regular electronics, so yeah, we’re actually finally gonna be able to open up this Friday the 26th.” The service will be open every Friday, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. Nielsen explains why this add-on is so important.
“It’s a very big need in the area. Batteries, especially lithium-ion batteries, are being incorporated into products faster than we can manage, and many end up in landfills and other places where they should not be, contaminating the earth, air, and, in some cases, posing a huge fire risk. Marathon County sold waste actually worked with us to prepare, because they see so many fires.”
When dropping off batteries to recycle, make sure they are rechargeable and not single-use alkaline batteries. Make sure you tape the terminals or prongs on the batteries to prevent fire risk. For more information, visit www.goodnewswi.com.
