FARMERS WORRIED ABOUT METHANE TAX
Monday, December 8th, 2008 -- 11:33 AM
Farmers are worried the government may tax greenhouse gases released by their cows.According to reports, the EPA may start regulating greenhouse gases. It could mean farmers will have to pay a new livestock tax for their carbon-based emissions.
The issue arose this summer when EPA issued a notice that it is considering regulating greenhouse gases for automobiles and possibly for ?stationary sources of air pollutants.?
The American Farm Bureau Federation has gone on record stating that a greenhouse gas tax on cows and other farm animals would force producers out of business and result in higher food prices for consumers.
