Walk to End Alzheimer's Being Held in Black River Falls this Sunday, September 21st

The Alzheimer’s Association is inviting Black River Falls area residents to join the fight to end Alzheimer’s by participating in the Walk to End Alzheimer’s® on September 21, 2025, at Lunda Community Park, 1400 Tyler Street, Black River Falls.

The event opens at 8:30 a.m. with the Opening Ceremony at 9:40 a.m., immediately followed by the Walk at 10:00 a.m. All participants in the walk will enjoy a post-walk brunch hosted by Interfaith Volunteers at the Lunda Park Pavilion immediately after the event. The Alzheimer’s Association extends its heartfelt appreciation to this year’s Walk leadership.

Chair Mary Gerdes, Owner of G&G Media Services LLC and WWIS Radio, and Advocacy Engagement Chair Emily Reitz, Dementia Care Specialist at the Aging & Disability Resource Center (ADRC) of Monroe County, have provided outstanding dedication and leadership in uniting the community to raise awareness, support families, and fuel the mission to end Alzheimer’s.

Their commitment ensures the Walk remains a meaningful and impactful event for all participants. “The Walk to End Alzheimer’s is about more than just taking steps; it’s about coming together as a community to support one another and stand with families impacted by this disease,” said CJ Werley, Manager of the Walk to End Alzheimer’s.

“When neighbors, caregivers, businesses, and friends unite on Walk day, we create hope and a powerful reminder that no one has to face Alzheimer’s alone.” The walk features the inspiring Promise Garden Ceremony, where participants carry colorful flowers, each representing a personal connection to the disease.

More than 7 million Americans are currently living with Alzheimer’s, one of the nation’s leading causes of death. Over 11 million family members and friends provide unpaid care for those affected.

In Wisconsin, more than 110,000 people are living with Alzheimer’s, and tens of thousands of caregivers are supporting them every day. In Jackson County alone, over 583 residents age 65 and older are living with dementia.

Exciting progress in both treatments and early detection has brought new hope to millions of families. Breakthroughs in medical science, fueled by decades of research, advocacy, and community support, are helping people receive answers sooner and benefit from new ways to slow the progression of the disease.

These advances strengthen our determination to keep moving forward toward a world without dementia. This year, the Alzheimer’s Association proudly welcomes Bill Schroeder, former Milwaukee Brewers player and longtime television color commentator, as the Honorary Statewide Chair for all 2025 Walk to End Alzheimer’s events in Wisconsin.
