Friday, September 12th, 2025 -- 10:01 AM

The Marathon County Sheriff’s Department received reports from citizens who say they are getting calls from someone claiming to be a Lieutenant with the Marathon County Sheriff’s Office
The message often sounds pre-recorded and is not coming from a listed Sheriff’s Office phone number. They want to remind everyone: If you receive a call that seems suspicious, do not provide any information.
That includes:
- Social Security numbers
- Banking or credit card information
- Personal identifying details
What to do if you get one of these calls:
- Hang up immediately.
- Do not engage with or call the number back.
- Report the call to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) at www.reportfraud.ftc.gov
If you have questions or want to confirm a legitimate call, contact the Marathon County Sheriff’s Office directly at our listed phone numbers. Please share this message with friends and family, especially those who may be more vulnerable to scams.
Feel free to contact us with questions and/or comments.
