(Kris Leonhardt, MMC Senior Editor) During its Sept. 10 meeting, the Marshfield School District Board of Education unanimously approved a staffing proposal for buildings and grounds that includes the hiring of an additional staff member, according to Kris Leonhardt, MMC Senior Editor

“Administration proposed hiring an additional maintenance technician and moving the most veteran and experienced maintenance technician into a mentorship role to oversee and mentor new maintenance and custodial staff,” said Marshfield Board President Mark Konrardy.

“The move would include an extra duty pay rate through the remainder of the school year and over the summer months. The position would be reevaluated later in the school year to determine if the district moves forward with this position, continuing into the following."

“As we all know, our senior people are retiring in a lot of businesses throughout; there is nobody there to mentor the new people coming in. To take all of their experience, from this gentleman, and put it into somebody new that is coming in, take all of the buildings that we’ve got, hat’s priceless to me."

"Also, we are into building projects and everything else. Moving this maintenance person up as a mentor also will help Aaron in managing all of the projects that we’ve got going on.”

“Assigning the current veteran employee, maintenance individual to this role of head maintenance person, we would also be hiring a new maintenance person to take his regular maintenance assignments; so, it does involve an additional position, in addition to the pay increase,” Superintendent Dr. Ryan Christianson clarified.

“In addition to having a young, newly-hired maintenance crew, besides the individual we are referring to, we are anticipating multiple head custodial retirements by the end of this current school year."

"So, that is another important role that this position would play is mentoring, helping, assisting across the board with all of our custodial, maintenance employees in the buildings and grounds department.”

The move will be effective in the upcoming week.
