Wood County has prioritized safety for its community events, motivated by an increasing number of vehicle attacks occurring nationally.

The establishment of a modular vehicle barrier system is a significant step in protecting large gatherings from potential threats. The county successfully obtained a grant from the Legacy Foundation, recognizing the urgent need for enhanced safety measures in light of recent incidents, including one that occurred in New Orleans during New Year's celebrations.

The modular vehicle barrier system, costing approximately $358,000.00, consists of two trailers equipped with barriers meant to prevent vehicles from accessing sensitive areas.

This system is crucial for safeguarding attendees at community events. This system offers a more compact and efficient solution compared to traditional measures, such as using street department trucks, which can be expensive to repair or replace if damaged.

Officials indicated that the barrier system will be available for use across various municipalities in Wood County, allowing multiple communities to benefit from enhanced safety at events.

Organizations merely need to sign up to utilize it. There's appreciation directed towards those involved in securing the grant, including the Marshfield Fire Department and staff, as well as the collaborative effort to improve public safety in the county.
