Jackson County Sheriff's Sergeant Charged for Officer Involved Shooting Appears in Court

Tuesday, August 26th, 2025 -- 11:00 AM

(WEAU Staff, WEAU) An initial appearance took place Monday for a Jackson County Sheriff’s Office Sergeant charged following an officer involved shooting in Jackson County.

According to WEAU staff, 38-year-old Stan Edington of Elm Grove, Wis. appeared via video in Jackson County Circuit Court Monday for his initial appearance. Online court records show during the initial appearance, the next hearing was set Sept. 3, 2025.

Online court records state that the defense indicates that they will be filing a motion to dismiss. Edington is charged with second degree reckless injury. According to the criminal complaint, on May 12, 2025, the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office received reports that a teen male born in 2008 was acting belligerent and was reportedly intoxicated.

Deputies were informed by the teen’s mother that the teen had left the home in a vehicle. Deputies with the sheriff’s office eventually found the vehicle and attempted a traffic stop on the vehicle, resulting in a vehicle chase.

The teen’s vehicle eventually slid into a grassy area off the road in the 8100 block of Sand Prairie Road North, in the Town of Hixton. Deputies were approaching the teen's vehicle when it began backing up. Sgt. Stan Edington discharged his firearm 18 times, striking the teen.

According to the complaint, Sgt. Edington said he thought the deputy in front of him had been run over by the vehicle and was being dragged underneath. The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office said in a press release that Sgt. Edington was placed on administrative assignment.
