Wisconsin Rapids Man Pleads Not Guilty to Causing a Crash that Killed his Passenger in December of 2024

Tuesday, August 19th, 2025 -- 12:01 PM

(Desiree Fischer, WSAW) An 18-year-old Wisconsin Rapids man pleaded not guilty to causing a crash that killed his passenger late last year.

According to Desiree Fishcer with WSAW, Trenton Lawry is charged with three counts, including homicide by negligent operation of a vehicle. Monday, a judge set a $100,000 signature bond, meaning Lawry will not be taken into custody, but the money could be forfeited if he misses a court appearance.

The crash occurred on December 13, 2024, on Highway 10 in Auburndale. According to a criminal complaint, Lawry was driving north on Highway 186 when he ran the stop sign at Highway 10, crashing into a vehicle headed west on Highway 10.

The passenger in Lawry’s vehicle, Kasey Ramthun, of Vesper, was declared dead at the scene. Lawry and the driver of the other vehicle were taken to a local hospital for medical treatment.

The criminal complaint states Lawry told the deputy on scene, “This is my fault, I’m sorry”. He also said he couldn’t see the stop sign and “ran it by accident”. Criminal charges were filed in June. According to online court records, a future court date has not yet been set.
