Charges Filed Against Jackson County Sheriff's Sgt. After Incident Involving Disorderly Teen Back in May

(WEAU Staff, WEAU) The La Crosse County District Attorney’s Office filed a criminal complaint against Sgt. Stan Edington of the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office following an officer involved shooting in Jackson County.
According to WEAU staff, A criminal complaint shows 38-year-old Stan Edington of Elm Grove, Wis. is charged with second degree reckless injury. According to the criminal complaint, on May 11, 2025, the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office received reports that a teen male born in 2008 was acting belligerent and was reportedly intoxicated.
Deputies were informed by the teen’s mother that the teen had left the home in a vehicle. Deputies with the sheriff’s office eventually found the vehicle and attempted a traffic stop on the vehicle, resulting in a vehicle chase.
The teen’s vehicle eventually slid into a grassy area off the road in the 8100 block of Sand Prairie Road North, in the Town of Hixton. Deputies were approaching the teen's vehicle when it began backing up.
Sgt. Stan Edington discharged his firearm, striking the teen. Bodycam footage shows Edington discharged his firearm 18 times. The vehicle then struck a mailbox, and then Sgt. Edington discharged his firearm an additional four times.
22 spent 9 mm casings were recovered from the scene. The criminal complaint says the teen was flown to Emplify Health System in La Crosse, Wis. where he was listed in critical condition.
Medical Records later confirmed the teen was diagnosed with a spinal cord injury. According to the criminal complaint, Sgt. Edington obtained a full-time position with Jackson County Sheriff’s Office as a patrol deputy in the late summer or early fall of 2014, and in 2018, Sgt. Edington was promoted to Sgt. and received a K9 partner. Online court records show an initial appearance for Edington is scheduled for Aug. 25, 2025.
