The Central Wisconsin State Fair gets underway today and runs through this Sunday, August 24th.

Cost for daily gate passes is $10 for adults 13 and older, $5 for children 5-12, and children 4 and under are free. Season gate passes are $35 for adults 13 and older, $15 for children 5-12, and free for children 4 and under.

Today is Junior Fair Day, so adults 13 and older can get into the fair for $5 and children 12 and under are free. They also have a lunch special today from 11:30am-1:30pm, so you can get free gate admission during that time.

Today is also the Can-Do Fair Day. If you bring 2, non-perishable, non-expired food items to the gate, you can receive free admission to the fair. Even though you can only get that free admission today, they will accept items all week.

Some other fun and performances in the Family Entertainment tent today include the Hand-Picked Bluegrass Band from 2pm-5pm. The Dress-a-Cow Contest gets underway at 7pm in the Jer Lang Show Palace. And pop/rock band Doozey will play from 6pm-8pm.

Dominguez Attractions, a proud circus family, will have shows for adults and kinds throughout the entire week of the fair. Their shows will be at 5:30pm-6pm and 7:30pm-8pm today. Kenny Ahern will bring his zany comedy shows all week at the fair. His shows will be from 3pm-3:30pm, 5pm-5:30pm, and 7pm-7:30pm today.

Pleasure Valley Pig and Duck Races will be happening during the week of the fair too. They will have shows from 4pm-4:30pm and 6pm-6:30pm today. Fairgoers may run into Ta-Da Robots each day of the fair as well.

The Wonders of Wisconsin Exhibit will return to the Lang Information Center this year with the theme of Wonders of Wisconsin Wildlife. The Sample Shack will also return, giving Wisconsin residents the chance to sample some of Wisconsin’s awesome products.

Contests in the Lang Information Center will be back this year. Today is the Tallest/Ugliest/Most Unusual Weed Contest. Bring your weed to the Lang Information Center before 6pm to enter.

Junior Fair judging for today includes swine at 8am; beef, poultry, cultural arts, food, and nutrition judging, horse, and horse hippology all at 9am; food and nutrition and meat goat at 1pm; dairy fitting special at 2pm; Gymkhana in the horse arena at 5pm; Best Dressed Dairy Contest at 6:30pm; and Dress-a-Cow at 7pm.
