The Marshfield Common Council met on Tuesday, August 12, which drew a large crowd expressing concerns about "drag shows" that took place in Wenzel Plaza earlier this year, and discussed issues, from a proposed tourism agreement with Visit Marshfield, to Development with the Weinbrenner building.

The city administrator announced plans for City strategic planning meetings scheduled for September 6th and September 20th, aimed at addressing long-term visions for the City.

Joe Dunne, J. Jeffers & Company (developer) addressed prior questions from the council and mentioned the feasibility of a proposed redevelopment focusing on low-income housing tax credits, highlighting the discussions surrounding the balance of market-rate and affordable housing units within the Weinbrenner project.

Jeff Hill expressed frustration over difficulties in developing a property in Marshfield near West McMillan Street and St. Joseph Avenue, specifically concerning utility connections and costs.

Despite having completed and financed engineering assessments for the subdivision, they encounter challenges in accessing sewer and water utilities that are essential for the project.

City Attorney Hap Wolfgram addressed concerns over drag shows explaining the legal definitions in Wisconsin Statute 948.055, which pertains to causing a child to view or listen to sexual activity.

He said there was no evidence that the Pride event violated the law, and stressed that city officials and police were fulfilling their duties.
