TWO ACCIDENTS, ONE FATAL, ON SLIPPERY STRETCH OF 29

Tuesday, November 25th, 2008 -- 10:07 AM

A 56-year-old Marshfield woman died in a Chippewa County car crash last night. It was one of two major accidents on the same stretch of STH 29 near Boyd at virtually the same time; both accidents happened at around 7:30 p.m.

A minivan left the road, struck a guardrail and continued down an embankment where it overturned.

The woman was extradited from the vehicle and flown to Marshfield, where she was pronounced dead late last night.

The name of the victim is being withheld pending notification of family members.

Just before that fatal accident occurred, there was another major accident on the same stretch of STH 29.

A van with 9 occupants ranging in age from 2-months to 38 yrs. lost control on the slippery highway. The van traveled into a ditch where it overturned.

The driver, 16-year-old Othniel Martin, escaped injury. Two other passengers, ages 2-months and 14 yrs., were also properly restrained, and were not injured.

5 passengers, including three children, ages 1, 3 and 5, were not seatbelted or restrained.

Six ambulances transported the injured to area hospitals.

Authorities say the two accidents were not directly related.
