(WAOW) A fire broke out at 830 Oak Street on August 7, displacing residents and requiring the efforts of more than 50 firefighters.

According to WAOW, the City of Wisconsin Rapids Fire Department was alerted at 2:59 p.m. and responded promptly. The fire, concentrated in the attic of the two-story house, initially overwhelmed crews with heavy smoke.

Firefighters from several departments, including Grand Rapids, Nekoosa, Rudolph, and Port Edwards, joined the initial efforts to control the blaze. Additional support came from Biron and Vesper Fire Departments due to the high temperatures and extensive work needed.

The Wisconsin Rapids Police Department and multiple EMS teams, including Saratoga EMS and United Ambulance, provided assistance. One resident was taken to Aspirus Hospital, and a firefighter was treated on scene for heat exhaustion.

The fire was brought under control by 3:45 p.m. and fully extinguished by 6:30 p.m. The cause is under investigation but is believed to be accidental, according to the City of Wisconsin Rapids Fire Department.
