(Sirena Mankins, Editor of the Hub City Times) The Central Wisconsin State Fair is changing its policy when it comes to bags, saying only clear bags will be allowed into grandstand events.

According to Sirena Mankins, Editor of the Hub City TImes, officials said the policy is changing to “enhance safety and streamline security” ahead of this year’s fair, scheduled for Aug. 19-24.

The new policy requires attendees to carry clear bags no larger than 12 inches-by-12 inches-by-6 inches or small non-clear clutches measuring no more than 4.5 inches-by-6.5 inches, with or without straps, according to fair organizers.

Prohibited items include non-clear backpacks, large purses, camera bags and any bags exceeding the size limits. All bags remain subject to inspection at entry gates.

“Items not meeting the approved criteria will not be allowed and may be discarded if left unattended,” organizers stated. Exceptions will be made for medically necessary items, which are still subject to inspection.

The fair, held annually at the Wood County Fairgrounds at 513 E. 17th St., typically draws about 100,000 visitors over its six-day run, according to industry reports.

This year’s fair will feature headlining performances by country artist Chris Kroeze on Wednesday evening, rock band Hairball on Thursday, Justin Moore on Friday and Halestorm on Saturday, with a Bulls-N-Barrels competition scheduled for Sunday afternoon.
