The Highground extends its deepest gratitude to the individuals and organizations who made the 2025 Men’s Veterans Retreat a powerful and healing experience for all who attended.

Held at The Highground and the nearby natural surroundings of Mead Lake, the retreat provided veterans with a much-needed opportunity to rest, reflect, and reconnect with each other and with themselves.

From mindfulness activities to skill-building workshops, the weekend was grounded in camaraderie and personal growth. This impactful experience would not have been possible without the generous support of our dedicated community.

The Highground thanks Heidi Bower and Bobbi Jo Marion, and family, for leading our archery session and creating an atmosphere of focus, fun, and encouragement.

The Highground is also grateful to Heidi and Jason Lenz and Holly Schultz with Strides Equestrian Therapy and Freedom Ranch for facilitating an unforgettable equine session that helped bring presence, confidence, and calm.

Bonnie Pettis offered a meaningful paracord workshop, giving participants a creative and meditative outlet. Scott Schultz led a powerful journaling session that encouraged veterans to reflect and share their experiences in a supportive environment.

A special thank you goes to Bonnie Henchen, who lovingly prepared every meal throughout the weekend. Her meals nourished not just the body, but the spirit of the group.

The Highground also thanks Harold Schmitt and the Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs (WDVA) for their generous sponsorship of the retreat. Their support made it possible to offer this experience at no cost to participating veterans.

One of the most valuable aspects of the retreat was the opportunity to simply be present in a serene natural setting, where quiet reflection and meaningful conversation helped participants reset and recharge away from the demands of daily life.

The Highground is honored to offer these retreats thanks to the continued support of sponsors, donors and volunteers. To learn more about their programs or to get involved, visit their website or follow them on Facebook at Facebook.com/TheHighgroundVeteransMemorial.
