10-Month-Old Killed in Marathon County Crash

(Karen Madden, Wausau Daily Herald) A 10-month-old boy is dead following a one-vehicle crash that happened the afternoon of July 16 in Marathon County.
According to Karen Madden with the Wausau Daily Herald, at 4:38 p.m. July 16, a 911 caller reported a sport utility vehicle had left the road and crashed into a creek east of State 97, between Blueberry Road and Blackberry Road, in the Marathon County town of Frankfort, about 25 miles west of Wausau.
The SUV had been going south when the driver lost control and road conditions are believed to have been a factor in the crash, according to a news release from the Marathon County Sheriff's Office. The 10-month-old boy, who was ejected from the vehicle, died at the scene, according to the release.
The driver, a 34-year-old woman, and three other passengers, a 1-year-old girl, a 4-year-old boy and an 18-year-old woman were all transported to local hospitals with suspected minor injuries, according to the release.
State 97 was closed about 4⅟₂ hours while authorities investigated the scene and cleared the road, according to the news release. The Marathon County Medical Examiner's Office, Stratford Fire and EMS and Marathon County Highway Department assisted at the scene.
