SHERIFF: SIDIE LED INVESTIGATORS TO BODY

Monday, November 17th, 2008 -- 10:04 AM

Authorities say the man who reported Alisha Sidie missing was also the man who took her life.

At a Sunday afternoon press conference Jackson County Sheriff Duane Waldera said they believe Douglas Sidie was solely responsible for the death of his ex-wife, 27-year-old Alisha Sidie.

Doug Sidie reported Alisha missing on Friday, November 7th. He said she had walked away from their Hatfield residence after an argument and even participated in the volunteer search efforts last week.

Waldera said the case broke Saturday when investigators identified a key witness who cooperated with authorities. It led investigators to interview Doug again Saturday night.

"We believe that Doug Sidie is responsible for the death of Alisha Sidie as well as attempts to conceal her body and evidence of a crime," Walder said, "Doug Sidie investigators to the area of Alisha's body and evidence of the homicide."

The witness? identity and relationship to the case has not been revealed.

Waldera would not say exactly where the body was hidden, but says it was a remote area within several miles from Sidie?s home in the Town of Komensky. Alisha?s body has been taken to Madison for an autopsy.

Waldera said Doug Sidie acted alone.

"All pertinent evidence in this case has been recovered. We believe Doug Sidie was solely responsible for the homicide and their are not other suspects at large or being charged in this case," he said.

Waldera would not say how Alisha died, saying the autopsy is still pending.

Jackson County District Attorney Gerald Fox said he intended to bring at least three charges against Sidie.

"Mr. Sidie will be charged with 1st-degree intentional homicide. I also intend to charge him with concealing a corpse and obstructing an officer. If a factual basis comes to light for additional charges, I will consider those," Fox said.

Sidie is currently being held on probable cause. Fox said he was not sure when he?ll make his first appearance in court.

A fund has been set up for Alisha and Douglas Sidie?s 2-year-old twin boys, Bryce and Zackary Sidie, at the Co-op Credit Union in Black River Falls.
