On Saturday, August 2, a dedicated family of three will pack their support gear and lead the Southwestern Route riders for the 41st Annual Heroes Bike Tour, a ride rooted in remembrance and purpose.

This meaningful tradition began in 1985 when Tom Miller biked 1,244 miles across Wisconsin, each mile symbolizing a Wisconsin service member lost in the Vietnam War. His journey sparked awareness, honored Vietnam Veterans, and helped lay the foundation of The Highground.

Today, the ride continues as the cherished Heroes Ride.  Leading the Southwestern Route is Marine spouse Terri Stott, who intimately understands the sacrifices military families endure.

For Terri, the Heroes Ride is more than just miles, it’s a cause close to her heart, strengthened by the presence of her family and friends who ride alongside her.

On Sunday morning, August 3, the Southwestern Route riders will begin the final leg of their journey, arriving at The Highground between 10:30 and 11:30 a.m.

The welcome they receive at The Highground is powerful, the heartbeat behind a mission that has inspired healing and remembrance for over four decades.

Riders gather for the “Heroes Family” meal and a brief ceremony before heading home. It is, without question, one of the humblest yet meaningful events of the year.

The Heroes Ride is The Highground’s largest and longest-running fundraiser, generating over $74,700 in 2024. Proceeds from this incredible event fuel life-changing veteran programs and help The Highground with operating expenses.

The Highground proudly welcomes returning riders and eagerly invites new participants each year. There's still time to get involved— joining the Southwestern Route empowers a legacy of honor, education and healing for Veterans and their families.
