The theme for Neillsville’s Heritage Days is “Tuned In To The Community”.
As is tradition, the theme is a nod to the Grand Marshals of the parade. This year the Grand Marshals have been chosen by the Neillsville Heritage Days for their outstanding citizenship and commitment to our community.
The 2025 Grand Marshals: Central WI Broadcasting. Two members of the Heritage Days Committee, Barb and Michelle, had the pleasure of speaking with Kevin, Logan, and Kaleb Grap about the history of Central WI Broadcasting.
Central WI Broadcasting began in 1957 and became the first local radio station in Clark County with the station WCCN-AM. Later WCCN -FM was added and a simulcast format was used to provide country music along with local news and programming.
Originally owned by a group of local entrepreneurs; Howie Sturtz Jr. sold his remaining shares in the company to Wayne Grap to focus on other ventures. Later on Wayne’s son, Kevin would purchase the company from his father.
In 1992, more and more radio stations were broadcasting country music and Kevin knew that something needed to change at the station if they were going to continue to make it as a local station. Kevin made a decision that would come to shape the entire future of Central WI Broadcasting as we know it. He split the stations.
WCCN AM, which we now know as 1370 AM, continued with its local service program while WCCN-FM made the drastic change to classic rock music and became the famous 1075 The Rock.
The decision to split the stations paid off and Central WI Broadcasting has continued to grow and thrive with a total of seven area stations under their belt. The Neillsville Heritage Days is honored to have Central WI Broadcasting as the Grand Marshals for 2025 due to their steadfast community commitment, dedication to local causes, exemplary citizenship, and their selfless generosity.
Their actions speak volumes, making them truly deserving of this honorary role. Find the whole post here: https://www.facebook.com/NeillsvilleHeritageDays.
