Marshfield Medical Center-Neillsville Nurse Selected for DAISY Award
Monday, July 7th, 2025 -- 10:00 AM

Congratulations to Registered Nurse Dianne Handrick, from surgical services at Marshfield Medical Center-Neillsville, for recently receiving a DAISY award.
Her nomination read, "Dianne has been an RN for over 40 years. I first met Dianne when I was a staff RN at St Joseph’s Hospital in 1986 when we were both working the ICUs."
"I was so young in my profession and inexperienced. I remember Dianne because she was like the nurse I wanted to become. She was a strong ICU nurse with great skills but more importantly so kind and caring to patients, families, and co-workers."
"Fast forward, as life so quickly does, and it is 2018 and Dianne and I cross paths again. This time in a much different capacity. I was the COO at Memorial Medical Center in Neillsville WI and Dianne was interviewing for a casual position in one of the departments."
"Dianne had left nursing for a time and was now looking to re-enter the profession. Of course, we were excited to have someone with so much experience and compassion join our team."
Dianne will tell you that she had some hurdles to mount and the biggest was the Electronic Medical Record. She had left nursing before the industry standard had become a fully electronic record."
There were some frustrating times and even a few tears, but like everything else Dianne sets out to do, she conquered it. The following year we joined the MCHS, and by the way, learned a new EHR and she did just fine."
Today, Dianne is super flexible and works in ED, Pre-op, med/surg as an extra set of hands and even House Sups on occasion. Dianne was instrumental in creating an Aromatherapy/Essential Oils policy for our entire system."
"In fact, we frequently will get comments on our Press Ganey reports about the wonderful nurse that used the oils to calm them before surgery. Many have also commented on the relaxing foot rubs that Dianne provides during pre-op."
"She clearly demonstrates going above and beyond so that patients have a good surgical experience. I was Dianne’s patient when I had a procedure done and I got the same royal treatment that she provides all of her patients."
"I have a specific incident that sticks out in my mind when Dianne was covering in the ED. There was a patient that came through the ED that needed to be admitted. It was an elderly lady that was so worried about her cats getting fed."
"On her way home from work, Dianne stopped at this lady’s home and checked on her cats and ensured that they had food and water. Not just anyone would put themselves out like that, but she does things like this routinely.”
“When Dianne works as a House Sup on the weekends, she always brings everyone a healthy treat. Yogurt parfait, nutritious smoothies are just some of what she has done."
"Clearly, Dianne is as kind to our team as she is to patients. Dianne puts herself out there to help others. She will offer to come in to fill emergent needs even if she has a house full of people coming for dinner, she puts patients first."
She is a role model to for everyone else to follow in putting our patients needs and comfort first. Dianne often offers to work Holiday for others so that they can be with their families. All that I have shared makes Dianne the ideal nurse to celebrate and to receive the Daisy Award!"
The DAISY Foundation expresses gratitude to nurses with programs that recognize them for the extraordinary skillful, compassionate care they provide patients and families.
