Special Event Being Held at this Year's Clark County Fair, Registration Due by July 1st

There’s going to be a special event at the Clark County Fair this year.

A Special Drive will be held on Saturday, August 9th. I spoke with Devani Hinkelmann and she discussed the Special Drive in more detail.

Devani: "The special drive is kind of another version, they have something very similar at the State Fair, which is their All-for-One Show. So, we're kind of making our own version of that in Clark County."

"So, it's essentially a pig show that gives individuals with special needs all around Clark County the opportunity to show a pig through mentorship with our current exhibitors. So, not only are we getting our community involved, but we're also creating a unique opportunity for our current exhibitors too."

Riley: "Who can participate in this drive?"

Devani: "Yes, so from the participation side, we have any individual around Clark County, around the area, roughly ages 8 to 21, but we recently expanded that to just kind of offer it to more people and it is anyone with a special need, whether that might be a learning disability, a physical disability, anything that is would normally prevent them from showing an animal."

Riley: "And now this is going to be held on Saturday, August 9, during the Clark County Fair. If people want to be involved, how do they do that? They have to register, correct?"

Devani: "Yes. So, we have paper forms available as well as like an online registration Google form. All of it is readily available on our Facebook page that we have, there's been links that are being posted, and then I believe the fair also has it on their website. And then I also have been sending out posters to be at local dairy breakfast so, and really, just all around."

Riley: "What do you hope to accomplish by holding this Special Drive?"

Devani: "Yeah, I was trying to think of goals for this year. Obviously, it's the first year. I wanted to be realistic. The overall goal was just to give this opportunity to the individuals that want to be a part of it, whether that's one or two participants, whether that's all the way up to 10 or 15."

"We just wanted this opportunity available to whoever would be interested. So, that was kind of the main goal overall. And then from there, it kind of stemmed too to be able to give a really unique leadership opportunity to our current exhibitors and kind of give them a way to also give back."

"That's where the original idea stemmed from. When I decided to start this was that I wanted to find a new way to give back to the fair and so now that's all kind of just been compiled into this show."

Riley: "Anything else?"

Devani: "I think the biggest thing is just continuing to spread the word and get as many people involved as we can. Registration is open through July 1st, with a little bit of a buffer there in case there's any late registration. So, our biggest focus right now is just making sure our target audience knows about it and has the opportunity to be a part of it."
