Man Struck in Killed on Highway 29 in Wausau

(Brad Hanson, WAOW) -A man died after being hit by a vehicle on State Highway 29 near 72nd Avenue in Wausau on Monday.

According to Brad Hanson with WAOW, the incident occurred at approximately 11:26 p.m. The Wausau Police Department reported that the 30-year-old male was in the westbound lane and claimed to have a firearm before running from officers.

He crossed into the eastbound lanes, where he was struck. The vehicle's occupants suffered minor injuries but did not require hospital transport. The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.

Wausau Police and Fire/EMS provided first aid immediately, closing the highway for five hours. The Marathon County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate.
