Visit Wausau Convention and Visitor’s Bureau Receives Grant for 2026 National Horseshoe Pitchers’ Association World Championship

Tuesday, June 24th, 2025 -- 8:00 AM

(Mike Leischner, WSAU) The Visit Wausau Convention and Visitor’s Bureau has landed an opportunity fund grant to support the 2026 National Horseshoe Pitchers’ Association World Championship tournament, which will be hosted in Weston.

According to Mike Leischner with WSAU, the grant will cover operational costs associated with hosting the tournament and will be matched with local room tax dollars.

“Bringing the World Horseshoe Tournament to Weston is a major win for our region,” said Tim White. “It speaks to our community’s ability to host large-scale, nationally recognized events and showcases Marathon County as a welcoming, vibrant place to visit and explore. We’re proud to put Central Wisconsin on the map.”

The event will be hosted at the Greenheck Turner Community Center at D.C. Everest Senior High. Officials from the NHPA will take over the fieldhouse in the weeks before the tournament to construct regulation pitching facilities.

The two-week event officially begins on July 13th and runs through the 26th. Visit Wausau was awarded the hosting rights about one year ago, beating out competing bids from larger markets like Tulsa, OK, and Las Vegas, NV.
