City of Wausau Looking for Feedback From Residents Regarding Land on North 2nd Street

Tuesday, June 17th, 2025 -- 8:01 AM

(Mike Leischner, WSAU) The City of Wausau wants to hear feedback from residents before issuing a Request for Interest (RFI) to developers for land located on North 2nd Street.

According to Mike Leischner with WSAU, Economic Development Manager Andrew Lynch says they want to know what residents think would work in the space before they bring potential developers into the fold. Planners did take feedback on the area about ten years ago, but times have changed.

“The market has changed enough in that time that we wanted to go back out, talk to the neighborhood a bit, and see what kind of information we can include from [those who] live there every day.” That would include things like the design of any potential buildings and traffic patterns they might bring to the neighborhood.

“This is an opportunity to provide input, and we look forward to what comes of this. As we’ve found through our experiences with public input, there are always some interesting perspectives that come up from it, always something that we didn’t think of,” added Lynch.

Lynch says the land includes eight parcels of varying sizes on both sides of 2nd. The land has easy access to US Highway 51 via Bridge Street and is also located within walking distance of the riverfront.

Monday’s session was held at the downtown branch of the Marathon County Public Library. Public comments and feedback will be accepted through the end of the week. Click here for more information, including the feedback form.
