State Republican Proposing Another Constitutional Amendment that Would Limit the Governor's Veto Power

(Wisconsin Radio Network) Republicans at the Capitol seek to change the Wisconsin Constitution to limit the governor’s veto power.
The proposed amendment would allow a Wisconsin governor to only veto full sections of an appropriations bill or reduce spending. The governor is currently able to veto numbers, words and punctuation in spending bills to alter the bill’s meaning or amounts.
That allowed Governor Tony Evers to change a 2023 bill to secure a school funding increase for 400 years. The Wisconsin Supreme Court upheld that veto earlier this year following a legal challenge. Governors from both parties have exercised their expansive partial veto for decades.
