As its second CAMO (Community and Military Outreach Program) presentation, The Highground hosted a Mental Health Expo on May 14, 2025.

The event’s success reinforces the commitment to fostering mental wellness in both military and civilian communities. Participants were able to connect with veteran and community resources through interactive tables, gaining access to critical support services and educational materials.

Experts from organizations, including La Crosse Vet Center, Strides Equestrian Center, Christine Center, United Way of Marshfield, Off The Mat Yoga, Morden a Feeling, The Wellness Way-Osseo, Clark County Community Services and Clark County Veteran Service Officer Aaron Greisen were available for guidance and assistance as well as networking among themselves.

Chris Pettis, executive director of The Highground, shared insights on identifying emotional crises and actionable strategies to navigate difficult situations and provide meaningful support to those in need.

Adding a deeply moving perspective, Linda Brey delivered a moving and sincere presentation on the weight of trauma and everyday burdens, drawing from personal experience following the tragic suicide of her son, Don Marine (Army veteran).

Her presentation served as a powerful reminder of the significance of mental health—both for us and those around us. It emphasized that no one is ever truly alone, and by sharing the weight of life’s struggles, we ensure that no individual bears their burdens in isolation.

Sister Gabe Uhlein, representing the Christine Center of  Willard, guided the guests through a drum circle, fostering rhythm, building connections, and promoting relaxation among everyone present as a meaningful conclusion to the event.
