(Mike Leischner, WSAU) A Wausau woman was found guilty by a jury in connection with the death of her grandmother.
According to Mike Leischner with WSAU, Kandise Sheahen faced a three-day trial for felony neglect- causing death, with the potential for increased penalties due to the victim’s age. Investigators say the 38-year-old was mismanaging her grandmother’s diabetes, causing significant health problems.
Concern for the woman’s condition began weeks before her death, with friends and family noting that Sheahen made concerning comments about taking the woman off some medications and replacing others with non-approved supplements.
The trial began on Wednesday. Witness testimony wrapped up Thursday afternoon. Deliberations began Friday morning. Jurors heard from eight witnesses over the two days.
They deliberated for about two and a half hours before returning the verdict at 1:00 PM. Sheahen faces up to 25 years in prison and $100,000 in fines at sentencing, which was not immediately scheduled.
A presentence investigation will be conducted, with a scheduling conference set for June 10th.
