Man Enters Plea for Stabbing in Wausau

(Mike Leischner, WSAU) The man accused of a stabbing on the City of Wausau’s west side in 2023 appeared in Marathon County Court on Friday.

According to Mike Leischner with WSAU, Jason Hopinka is accused of stabbing another man inside a home on 4th Avenue in Wausau. When police arrived at the scene, neither the victim nor the suspect were present.

About three hours later the victim arrived at a local hospital for treatment. Hopinka was identified as the suspect and arrested in rural Marathon County later that afternoon. The victim was stabbed in the face, but survived the incident.

During his court appearance on Friday, Hopinka was found guilty of, due to a no contest plea, 2nd degree recklessly endangering safety - use of a dangerous weapon, aggravated battery - use of a dangerous weapon, and disorderly conduct - domestic abuse.

Several other charges were dismissed and read in. He’s scheduled for sentencing on June 10th.
