SUDER, SWIGGUM ON HEALTH CARE

Monday, November 3rd, 2008 -- 9:05 AM

The candidates for the 69th Assembly District have differing views on healthcare.

At a forum on Wednesday, incumbent Scott Suder said he supports BadgerCare and SeniorCare, but would not support the ?universal? Healthy Wisconsin plan.

"I'm a big fan of BadgerCare. Always have been," Suder says, "It serves 75,000 working families in the entire state of Wisconsin. If you cut BadgerCare, we're still going to still be paying for them. At least they're able to have a job and keep a job."

Suder railed on Healthy Wisconsin as a plan that would cost too much and provide health care for illegal aliens.

Swiggum defended the idea, saying illegal aliens would get health care one way or the other, usually by visiting expensive emergency rooms.

"BadgerCare and BadgerCare Plus are over budget, which we need to look at. A lot more families are on that that need to be," Swiggum said, "I think the Healthy Wisconsin plan would reduce the numbers on there."
