GROUP WANTS AD BAN OVERTURNED

Monday, November 3rd, 2008 -- 9:08 AM

The group at the center of the controversy over some campaign commercials will appeal a judge?s ruling blocking the ads from airing in our area.

Lawyers will ask the state Court of Appeals today to reverse a Jackson County judge's ban on the airing of a radio ad that links area Democratic candidates for State Assembly to a univeral health care plan.

During a hastily scheduled court hearing Sunday, the Coalition for America's Families failed to persuade Jackson County Circuit Judge Thomas Lister to lift his order.

Democratic candidate Mark Radcliffe brought the suit saying the ad was false and misled voters.

It said he ?supported a plan to double Wisconsin's taxes to give free health care to people who don't even work or pay taxes in Wisconsin."

Radcliffe says he never supported giving health care benefits to undocumented workers.

The Democrats are trying to gain control of the Assembly for the first time since 1994. The Republicans control the house by a 51-47 margin.

Another hearing is set for noon Monday in Black River Falls.
