Culver's Hope for Soft Reopening this Saturday After Remodel Project

Thursday, May 22nd, 2025 -- 10:00 AM

(Jamie Rokus, Marshfield-News Herald) Those who have been craving a ButterBurger, cheese curds or frozen custard in Marshfield won’t have to wait much longer as the Culver’s restaurant at 109 W. Upham St. is aiming to reopen later this week.

According to Jamie Rokus with the Marshfield-News Herald, the restaurant closed for remodeling May 12 and the local management team says they are “hoping for a soft reopening on Saturday, May 24, including starting curbside ordering and delivery.”

If the parking lot is safe enough to do so, they also hope to open the restaurant’s dining room for customers to eat inside. “During our soft reopening, we may not have blacktop, but we will make parking in the gravel lot as safe as possible,” the restaurant’s management team said.

The restaurant hopes to have blacktop poured the week of May 26. The management team cautions guests who visit the restaurant before the final blacktop is poured to be careful of uneven surfaces.

“The rain has not been on our side during this project, but the team at Culver’s and our construction crew from Decorative Concrete are doing everything in our power to get up and running as soon as possible.”

Remodeling at the restaurant has all been outside of the building. The parking lot has been caving in in some places as all of the piping underground was from the building when it was still Ponderosa, the local management team told the Marshfield News-Herald.

With the help of city inspectors, they have replaced the pipes that lead to the road, that go under sidewalks and run to the building. Culver’s is also putting in a tandem drive-through to help speed up the drive-through process.

One area where guests will notice the biggest difference is the removal of a curb, or step, to get into the building, the management team said. Now, to get into the front door it will be flat with the parking lot.

The remodel was necessary because, as a business, there is a grease trap under the parking lot to help intercept most greases and solids before they enter a wastewater disposal system.

This grease trap is older than Culver’s has had the business, and it has been failing, making it unsafe for third-party vendors to come in and pump it out, the management team said.

Culver's first opened in Marshfield in July 2002. Before it was Culver's, the building was home to Cider House Restaurant, which opened in 2001, and Ponderosa Steakhouse, which opened in 1981.
