Neillsville City Council Approves Part-Time Summer Help

The Neillsville City Council approved the part-time summer help at their meeting on Tuesday.

The Council accepted the recommendation to place all the part-time summer help applicants in a pool for the Cemetery, Parks, Public Works, etc. departments to draw from as needed.

City Clerk Rex Roehl reported on receiving a $1,000 donation from the American Legion Auxiliary for banner brackets, which the Council accepted and thanked the American Legion Auxiliary for its donation.

City Clerk Roehl reported on receiving a $2,000 donation from the Marguerite Listeman Foundation for Heritage Days, which the Council accepted and thanked the Listeman Foundation for its donation.

City Clerk Roehl reported on receiving donations from the Listeman/Naedler Foundation for the 4th of July Fireworks ($3,500) and the third of a three-year pledge for a new fire truck ($50,000), which the Council accepted and thanked the Listeman/Naedler Foundation for its donations. The Council also approved a resolution providing for the publication, filing, inspection, and adoption of a Code of General Ordinances for the City.

Mayor Dewey Poeschel in honor of National Police Week, May 15th through May 21st , recognized the following members of the Neillsville Police Department: Chief James Mankowski, Sergeant Hunter Imm, Corporal Derek Wheatley, Patrol Officers Isaac Guyer, Halle Fecker, Adam Olson, Trey Larson, Jacob Mertzig and Salvador Marquez and Administrative Assistant Jill Kyle.

Chief of Police Mankowski reported on:

  • Training,
  • April parking enforcements,
  • Citations,
  • Warnings,
  • Office activities,
  • Calls for service,
  • Officer activities,
  • Business patrols,
  • And Town of Mentor contract policing.

He also recognized Administrative Assistant Jill Kyle for going above and beyond with their IT vendor, the DOT and CIB for the Toughbook computer updates.

City Clerk Roehl reported that the Board of Review on Monday, May 19, 2025 from 8:00 A.M. to 10:00 A.M. and the Mama G’s Consignment ribbon cutting at their new location is Friday, May 16th.

The Council then heard the various Committee Reports from the past couple weeks. Council Member Barb Petkovsek reported on the April 22, 2025 meeting of the Grants Committee regarding reviewing and updating the list of grants in progress.

Council Member Clarissa Rochester reported on the May 6, 2025 meeting of the Heritage Days Committee regarding:

  • Discussion on sponsorships,
  • Discussion on parade route and road closures,
  • Discussion on liquor license,
  • Discussion on shirts,
  • And discussion on and approval of the parade theme – “Tuned into the Community”.

Council Member Petkovsek reported on the April 23, 2025 meeting of the Beautification Committee regarding:

  • Discussion on and setting flower planting for May 20, 2025,
  • Discussion on weeding schedule,
  • Discussion on Military Banners,
  • Discussion on receiving a $1,000 Clark County Community Foundation grant for Prock Park decorations and approving the ordering of cattails, cranes and grasses,
  • Discussion on receiving a $989.13 Tourism grant for a traveling mural,
  • Discussion on the bench program,
  • And discussion on an update from the Mural Work Group – Shawn Ganther volunteered to paint the traveling “Neillsville” mural.

Council Member Dan Clough reported on the May 13, 2025 meeting of the Commission on Public Works/Utilities regarding:

  • Current activities,
  • And discussion on part-time summer help applicants and recommendation to place all the part-time employee applicants as presented into a pool for the Cemetery, Parks, Public Works, etc. to draw from as needed.
