The Wausau Police Department is investigating the drowning death of a 16-year-old male whose body was recovered Sunday evening from the Wisconsin River near downtown Wausau.

On May 11, 2025, at approximately 8:30 p.m., Wausau Police and Fire personnel responded to a report of a possible drowning near the boat and kayak dock in the 1200 block of North River Drive.

This is located along the River Edge Parkway. Witnesses reported the teen entered the river from the dock and did not resurface. At approximately 9:10 p.m., Wausau Fire personnel located and recovered the teen from the water near the area where he was last seen.

Life-saving efforts were immediately initiated and continued during transport to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased. Preliminary findings do not indicate foul play.

The incident remains under investigation. No further information is being released at this time. Our thoughts are with the teen’s family and friends during this difficult time.
