The Highground Veterans Memorial’s Next CAMO Program this Wednesday
Monday, May 12th, 2025 -- 1:01 PM

On Wednesday, May 14, 2025, from 4-7pm, The Highground will host an important presentation and workshop as part of its new CAMO (Community and Military Outreach) Program.
This event is aimed at improving mental health and suicide prevention awareness in both the veteran and wider community. Attendees will receive a toolkit that will help them identify stress triggers in daily life, recognize warning signs of emotional distress, offer effective actions to help, and explore practical coping mechanisms for better mental well-being.
Veteran and community resources featuring interactive tables will be available onsite to connect attendees with support services and educational materials.
Attendees will have the chance to engage with knowledgeable professionals and explore pathways for support, including offerings from La Crosse Vet Center, Strides Equestrian Center, Christine Center, Off The Mat Yoga and more.
At 5pm, the workshop will be highlighted by a presentation from Chris Pettis, executive director of The Highground, who will focus on identifying warning signs of emotional crisis and the steps to take during a crisis. Pettis aims to equip attendees with actionable strategies to help themselves or someone in need during challenging times.
“This workshop is a critical step in fostering a community that understands mental health challenges and knows how to address them effectively,” said Chris Pettis. “By working together, we can create a safer, more supportive environment for everyone.”
The Highground invites veterans, their families, and all members of the community to attend this impactful event. For questions or more information, email Bonnie at [email protected] or call 715-743-4224.
