SUDER, SWIGGUM GET PERSONAL ON TV

Friday, October 24th, 2008 -- 12:12 PM

The politics got personal this week in the 69th Assembly District race.

During a live broadcast of "WEAU 13 News Today" in Eau Claire, Democrat Tim Swiggum (D-Owen) accused Republican Scott Suder's (R-Abbotsford) campaign of spreading false rumors.

Swiggum told host Judy Clark members of the community said they heard he had been fired from his job at Midwest Aluminum after he fell asleep on the job.

"I want to come clean: I was let go, but it was a team effort and the supervisor had to take the fall," Swiggum explained.

He then said it was "unfair" that Suder hasn't had "to come clean" about the case involving his ex-girlfriend, Lisa Brabazon.

"We need to bring that out in the public and he needs to answer to that because there is a ongoing investigation into his private affairs that needs to be addressed by the media, and frankly, they haven't been addressing that," Swiggum said.

Suder denied rumors about Swiggum's firing came from his camp.

"Anyone that brings up Tim's personal issues, or whatever he's talking about, I'll scold," Suder said.

"I think the media has been pretty good--I would say almost too good--at coverage of my ex-girlfriend's breaking into my house and stealing from me," he said.

This is Swiggum's second attempt to unseat Suder.
