FORECLOSURES UP IN WISCONSIN

Friday, October 24th, 2008 -- 11:46 AM

The rate of housing foreclosures in Wisconsin increased 44% in the third quarter compared to last year.

Nearly 5,500 foreclosures were filed in the Badger State during the quarter ending Sept. 30.

RealtyTrac shows the rate is still well below the national rate, which climbed 71% in the third quarter compared to last year.

ForeclosuresWI, a Milwaukee firm that tracks foreclosure filings in Wisconsin's circuit courts, shows that filings are up 23% in the state so far this year. There were 18,160 court filings through September in all Wisconsin counties, compared with 14,733 through September 2007.

Nationally, six states accounted for 60% of third-quarter foreclosures - California, Florida, Arizona, Ohio, Michigan and Nevada.
