(Mike Leischner, WSAU) The Wausau man accused of shooting another man outside a home on Emter Street in 2022 has been sentenced to 16 years in prison and another 20 years on extended supervision.
According to Mike Leischner with WSAU, Richard Mason was in court on Wednesday to learn his fate after pleading no contest to the charge in mid-April.
The move was part of a plea deal that dismissed a misdemeanor count of carrying a concealed weapon. Witnesses said Mason shot the victim in the abdomen, then stood over the victim executioner style and shouted “you ruined my life” numerous times as he fled the scene.
Officers caught up to him nearby and took him into custody without incident. The case had been scheduled for trial in late June. Additional terms of his sentence include a full no-contact order with several victims and their children.
He will also complete all treatment courses, including anger management. He was given credit for just over three years already served in jail. A judge also ordered the destruction of the weapon used in the incident.
