Neillsville Man Sentenced for Incident Involving His Children and an Accidental Shooting

A Neillsville man charged for neglecting a child after the child discovered his handgun and injured her sister was sentenced in Clark County Court on Friday.
According to court records, the daughter of the man was looking for a book when she discovered Brandon Woods’ handgun under the couch cushions. She thought it was a toy and pointed it at her sister when it went off and injured her sister.
She was taken to Marshfield Medical Center and treated for her injury. The daughter had claimed this wasn’t the first time she had found Woods’ gun, but she didn’t use it.
During his court appearance on Friday, he pleaded guilty to leave/store a loaded firearm near a child. Two other charges were dismissed and read in. He was sentenced to 12 months of probation.
Some of his conditions include a stayed jail sentence of 20 days and he must take firearms and parenting education courses.
