LEGISLATURE MAY LOOK AT SOBRIETY CHECKPOINTS

State legislators are expected to revive debate over sobriety checkpoints to catch drunk drivers next session.A Milwaukee Journal Sentinel series, entitled Wasted in Wisconsin, has some revealing information.
According to one graphic, Clark County ranks 30th among Wisconsin counties for having the most taverns per person. According to their research, there are 88 taverns here.
From 2003 to 2007, there were 12 fatal drunk driving crashes on Clark County roads. That ranks 34th per capita.
For reference, Oconto County, which has a similar population, ranked first in the state with 34 fatal crashes in the same period.
