LOCAL OFFICIALS SAY EARLY VOTING IS UP
Wednesday, October 22nd, 2008 -- 12:47 PM
With the November 4th Election now less than two weeks away, a lot of people have already voted. Both major party Presidential candidates have pushed supporters to cast their ballots early this year.
Some states offer ?early voting?, others?like Wisconsin?just allow voters to cast absentee ballots.
Local clerks we?ve talked with say they've seen a noticeable increase in the amount of absentee ballots coming back. Neillsville Deputy Clerk Ellen Clark estimates there have been about 100 absentee ballots collected already--around double what they?d expect to see.
Greenwood has accepted 20 absentee ballots.
Marshfield City Clerk Deb Hall says they've already received 1,000. There were 1,400 cast in the last Presidential Election, and she expects they will easily exceed that by the time November 4th rolls around.
Voters can request absentee ballots until next Thursday, October 30th; but they can vote absentee in their local clerk?s office until the day before the Election.
The ballots are sealed and not opened until Election Night.
