(Mike Leischner, WSAU) A Wausau man is accused of his 4th OWI after he was caught going north in the southbound lanes of US 51 in Rib Mountain in late March.
According to Mike Leischner with WSAU, officers were already investigating an unrelated crash in the southbound lanes when a northbound vehicle approached them.
When deputies caught up to the driver, identified as Adam Clifton, he said he had left his home and was heading back to his home. The 48-year-old initially denied that he had been drinking, but later admitted to having “a few beers” and said he was going the wrong way because he was “a terrible person.”
Officers took him to a local hospital and obtained a warrant for a blood test. He was then booked into the Marathon County jail for felony OWI and has since been released on a $1500 signature bond.
Conditions of his release include absolute sobriety from drugs and alcohol. He returns to court for a preliminary hearing on June 5th.
