POLICE URGE CALM, BUT AWARENESS IN FACE OF STALKING RUMORS

Wednesday, October 15th, 2008 -- 1:01 PM

A couple of recent incidents have area women a bit on edge.

Neillsville Police Chief Brad Lindner says there?s no need to panic, but commonsense safety measures should always be a priority.

There have been reports of a man following women near the City of Neillsville, stopping them and asking for directions, or simply staring at them. He drives a full-sized, blue pick-up truck.

Authorities know who the man is, but say he hasn?t yet broken the law; he has no criminal history.

There have been other reports of a male individual possibly following a woman in the Listeman Arboretum.

The developments even prompted Memorial Medical Center to issue a memo to their employees encouraging them to use the ?buddy system? when going to their vehicles, be on guard and be aware of their surroundings.
