Marathon County’s Suicide Death Review Team Releases Snapshot of 2024

Marathon County’s Suicide Death Review Team has released a snapshot of 2024 statistics.
Marathon County saw 25 suicides in 2024. 65% of those were done by those 40-69 years old. 85% of them were done by males. 65% died by gunshot. 85% were white. 10 cases were reviewed by the Team and 45 recommendations were created.
56% of those recommendations were implemented. 20 different organizations were involved with this initiative. The team will be installing crisis prevention signs and contact information in key spots such as bridges, garages, overpasses, and observation towers.
The 2022-2026 Marathon County Community Health Improvement Plan explores how continuum-of-care platforms help individuals more easily navigate community services and resources.
One local platform, 211, just released its end-of-year report. In 2024, United Way of Marathon County had 371 referrals for mental health/addictions, down from 649 in 2023. For more information on 211, visit: https://www.unitedwaymc.org/211
