Marshfield School Board Approves Curriculum, Handbooks, and More

The Marshfield School Board had the first reading of and approved some curriculum items at their meeting on Wednesday.

The Board had the first reading of the K-12 Science Curriculum and the K-12 Physical Education Curriculum, so no action was taken and they’ll be brought back to the next meeting. The Board did approve the 7-12 Agriculture Curriculum and the K-12 Health Curriculum.

There was also an item asking for the approval of the Human Growth and Development Advisory Committee Members pending approval of background checks. However, no action was taken as they’re still waiting on some background checks.

The Board also had the first reading of the 2025-26 Alternative High School Student Handbook and the 2025-26 High School Student Handbook, so no action was taken and they’ll be brought back to the next meeting.

The Board also approved some policies that were questioned at the last meeting. After review by the Policy Committee, the issues were discussed/resolved and brought back to the Board for approval, which the Board approved the policies regarding Ethics and Conflict of Interest, Student Privacy and Parental Access to Information, rescinding the policy regarding Due Process Rights, Petty Cash, and Facility Security.

The Board also approved the 2025-2026 Support Staff Handbook, the Custodial/Maintenance Employee Wage Provisions and Contract Renewal for Professional Staff. The Board also approved the Summer School Budget. In 2024, their actual budget came to $472,230.13. For 2025, they budgeted $520,237.

The Board also approved the LED Lighting Project for some of their elementary schools, approved the Track Resurfacing Project, and approved the Consortium Agreement for Project Search Student with Auburndale, which is another source of revenue for the District as it’s paid for by the District.

Finally, the Board approved the trip to Washington DC for the FFA Washington Leadership Conference in June and approved Cathy Gorst as the CESA 5 Convention Representative. The Board also approved some retirements, resignations, and new employees.

The Board also approved a long list of donations including

  • Pollinator kits including books and puppets valued at $450 for the Elementary Libraries from Rotary Marshfield;
  • Two “Trophy Records 1840-2023” books valued at $72 from Whitetails Unlimited Marshfield Chapter for the Middle and High School Libraries;
  • $200 from Jon and Kristin Cutlan for the High School Music Program;
  • $2,000 from Keith and Bonnie Lou Skattebo for the Food Service Angel Fund;
  • $250 from Nasonville Dairy for the HOSA Club (Health Occupations Students of America);
  • For Lincoln Elementary, $25 gift card from Madison Krause;
  • For High School Athletics, Boys/Girls Soccer:
    • $3,134.90 from Marshfield Tiger Booster Club,
    • $250 from Marshfield Medical Center Credit Union,
    • $300 from Counter-Form,
    • $250 from Flagstone Investment Properties,
    • $500 from Rice’s More Than Floors,
    • $250 from Janet Kleinschmidt,
    • And $250 from Gaffney Plumbing;
  • For High School Athletics, Boys/Girls Track:
    • $500 from Marshfield Tiger Booster Club,
    • $100 from Marshfield Chips,
    • $100 from Mike Trudeau,
    • And $1,000 from Gene Hill Construction;
  • For High School Athletics – Boys Basketball:
    • $300 from Brian Johnson,
    • $368.98 from Marshfield Country Club,
    • $399.26 from Power Pac,
    • And $202.61 from Associated Sales & Leasing.

During the Superintendent’s Report, he discussed a glitch with the Summer School Registration. He said the glitch has been resolved and registration will open at 6pm today, so he encourages parents to register right away as the programs are first come, first serve. He also discussed the performance of the Spring Musical this weekend.

The Board also heard some special recognitions including the Boys Basketball trip to state and an 8th grade student who made it very far in the Spelling Bee.

Finally, during the communications portion of the meeting, a teacher discussed the increased need that teachers are facing in Marshfield and elsewhere.
