Marshfield Common Council Approves Two Budget Resolutions

The Marshfield Common Council approved two budget resolutions at their meeting on Tuesday.
The Council approved increasing the Public Safety fund operating supplies expense account by $25,000 and the State Grants other revenue account by $25,000 in conjunction with the City’s acceptance of a state forestry grant. This is for ash tree removal/replacement to combat Emerald Ash Boarer.
The Council approved a proposal for emergency sanitary sewer lateral repairs at the Second Street Community Center, authorize staff to execute this proposal, and approve a Budget Resolution transferring funds from General Fund contingency to cover this unbudgeted expense at a cost of $13,542. The Council also heard information on the closure of TIF District #5. No action was taken and it was for informational purposes only.
When approving the consent agenda, they approved several items from the Board of Public Works including:
- Accepting the low bid for Fairgrounds softball complex press box stairwell,
- Authorized the 2025 mowing contract,
- Approved the contract for asphalt rejuvenating surface treatment,
- Approved the contract for asphalt paving projects,
- Approved the contract for survey work on South Vine Avenue project,
- And approved the purchase of an engineering GPS unit.
The Council also approved some items from the Finance, Budget and Personnel Committee, which included:
- The Memorandum of Understanding for mass dispensing sites at Oak Avenue Community Center,
- Approved authorizing sending revised job descriptions (Communications Department) to McGrath for compensation evaluation,
- And approved a revised policy for types of appointment.
During the Mayor’s comments, she read two proclamations including one recognizing Ava Gardner for her state title in wrestling for the second year in a row and another celebrating Arbor Day in the City. She also complemented residents on the 62% voter turnout during the April 1st Election. Finally, she mentioned Severe Weather Awareness Week and a certificate recently received by the Marshfield Fire Department.
During the Council’s comments, an alderman mentioned an $800 grant from Walmart for a portapotty in a park and Alderman Russ Stauber gave some words of goodbye as this was his final meeting.
During the City Administrator’s comments, he thanked Russ for his years of service, mentioned a groundbreaking in TIF 12, the first one on April 9th, some meeting dates, and offered his kudos to the Finance Department with the recent audit.
During Staff Updates, the Fire Chief thanked the community for their support and approval of the Public Safety Referendum. Finally, during the Public Comments portion of the meeting, a resident thanked the Council and community for their support of the Public Safety Referendum.
