(Blake Jackson, Wisconsin Ag Connection) In 2023, Wisconsin farmers sold more dairy products than meat, with dairy generating $6.2 billion in sales, compared to $3 billion from meat products, according to the USDA National Agricultural Statistics Service’s Annual Statistics Bulletin.

According to Blake Jackson with the Wisconsin Ag Connection, dairy accounted for the largest share of farm sales in the state, far surpassing feed crops, which generated $2.5 billion, and oil crops like soybeans and canola at $1.5 billion.

Poultry and eggs contributed $558 million to the state's agricultural revenue. However, overall farm income in Wisconsin saw a decline, dropping from $4.4 billion in 2022 to $3.4 billion in 2023.

This decline was reflected in net farm income, which is the difference between agricultural outputs and the costs of production. Despite this downturn, feed crops, oil crops, and other agricultural sectors still contributed significantly to the state’s economy.

The report highlighted the continued importance of dairy in Wisconsin’s agriculture, while also noting the resilience of meat and crop sectors. The data underscores both the challenges and ongoing value of the state's diverse agricultural industry.
