WEATHERIZE YOUR HOME

Tuesday, October 7th, 2008 -- 2:05 PM

Winter is just around the corner, and with the price of fuel on the rise, people are looking for ways to save money.

John Knox of Clark Electric Cooperative in Greenwood will be teaching folks how to weatherize their homes without breaking the bank. The seminars, sponsored by the Private Industry Council and the Clark County UW-Extension Office will be held tonight (Tuesday) at the Courthouse Auditorium here in Neillsville and Next Tuesday at the Thorp Fire Hall.

"Some of the simplest things people can do are stopping leaks and filling gaps in their house," Knox says, "Caulking around windows, making sure the caulk is good and fresh, put the plastic film around (windows), make sure the seals on your doors are good."

Also, people should take advantage of the sun by opening the blinds of south-facing windows during the day and shutting them at night.

Knox says they've been fielding a lot more calls on the topic.

"We get calls daily from people. It's just explaining the simple things to them. They can do these things and it can make a difference."

Again, the classes will start at 7 p.m. tonight (Tuesday) in the Courthouse Auditorium here in Neillsville and Next Tuesday at the Thorp Fire Hall.
