Tomah Police Chief Announces Retirement

After 26 years of service to the City of Tomah, Police Chief Scott Holum will retire on April 18, 2025.

Chief Holum began his career with the Tomah Police Department in 1999. Throughout his tenure, Chief Holum has served as a Patrol Officer, Sergeant of Police, Lieutenant of Police, and Assistant Police Chief.

He was appointed Police Chief in 2021. Chief Holum brought a forward-thinking approach to the law enforcement profession and constantly sought ways to improve processes and services.

Chief Holum implemented a therapy dog program, added an additional dual-purpose K9, created an investigative Lieutenant position, started an annual K9 Golf Outing, and supported the creation of a peer support program.

Chief Holum maintained positive relationships with elected officials, city staff, members of the department, community partners, and citizens. Chief Holum received a Master of Arts Degree – Organizational Leadership from Waldorf University, Bachelor’s of Science – Criminal Justice Administration from Columbia Southern University, Class 274 graduate of the FBI National Academy, and Class IV graduate of UW-Madison/WI DOJ Command College – Certified Public Manager program.

Chief Holum is pursuing a career in the private sector and will undoubtedly be successful. The men and women of the Tomah Police Department thank Chief Holum for his years of professional excellence, leadership, and service to others.

We also thank Chief Holum’s wife and family for their years of support. The Police and Fire Commission has begun the process to select the next Police Chief.
